New update has been released for the latest Subnautica Below Zero expansion adding the games first vehicle in the form of the Snowfox, together with a variety of new improvements, deadly new.
I guess a map is seen as a god given, artificial help to the player that actually is not that realistic. Of course players got used to maps in most games, but in real life, who would take out a piece of paper and try to draw a true to scale replica of the surrounding environment?Real people navigate by remebering certain landmarks and recognize them later on. I think this is how the devs want us to do it. In the original subnautica you could place and name beacons to find those landmarks more easily. A classical map would make navigation easier, no doubt, but I dont mind that this game takes a different approach to it.ps.: You are free to take out a piece of paper yourself and map the virtual environmant though, as you would do if you would be actually there!;). I state that I am not a good draftsman, not everyone is able to create a map and over time it becomes frustrating to get lost continuously, it would take a map to fog.I do not hide and I'm sure that many have used the online map for subnautics, see counter access, to find each other, which gives a signal of completeness and development. I'm not a kid anymore and I've been a beta tester for years, I just gave advice, the game is fantastic, excellent graphics and good game play.
Problem is this is an advance version of humanity that can travel between stars, im sure they have mapped out the area the base is in and have satellites in orbit, im sure they can have some form of basic GPS. They have been there for a while and it would be idiotic to not have taken some basic steps to have maps and some form of locator/gps, even if the company is cheap and doesnt care about employees lives it still makes more sense and would be cheaper than sending 5 people and having them all get lost and die so your forced to send another team who will just get lost and die etc etc. To me just seems lazy, first one had a reason as the crash and not having any support, in this game you have a space station in orbit, they cant scan your location and beam the info into your pad to make a sort of map? I dont mind exploring but the ideas need to make sense and NOT having a map in this situation with this level of technology just doesnt make sense, i mean we can take natural resources and convert them to something else and build massive buildings all with small handheld tools and fabricators, yet we cant develop basic mapping tech?

I printed out a map with coordinates and with the lifepod 5 in the center. The outline of the Aurora and the two islands were also on it, but nothing else.I used the beacons and drew circles with a compas to somewho triangulate positions on the map.For my second playthrough, i installed the automap mod, but it is just half of the fun. We've only been making paper maps of the world for thousands of years. And now the entire world is mapped via satellite. And we also use GPS mapping everywhere we go.And we map out cave systems. And we map the oceans floors. And we map the skies. And we map the weather. We even map the moon and mars.
Why Early Access?“We make our best games when you are involved from the start. The earlier you play, the faster we hear what you want. You can see our plans, our progress, our successes and our failures.
This is how we built the original. By involving you in the development process, and iterating openly on your feedback, we build better games.”Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?“We can't accurately predict how long Early Access will take.
We expect at least approximately one year, and potentially more.”How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?“Throughout Early Access, we will release a sequence of updates that add new content to the game. Initially, you will only be able to play in the starting zone and surrounding Biomes.
Future updates will add new vehicles (like the Hover Bike), new biomes, and new story areas. Bugs will be steadily reduced and performance steadily increased.”What is the current state of the Early Access version?“Below Zero offers currently 1-2 hours of story play time. Starting environments are richly detailed, voice acting is present, and bugs are frequent but often not game-breaking. Performance (frame rate) is poor relative to what we want in the finished game. See the 'About This Game' section for more information about what features are implemented so far.”Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?“The price of Subnautica Below Zero will increase by 25% when we release the finished version.”How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?“Please join us in developing Subnautica: Below Zero.
